"Macro Art In Nature"

Explorations in the artistic world of macro photography.

Now On Facebook!

And yeah, … I have not figured out the best way to use it yet!
Just signed up at Facebook, and it is already asking me the “become a friend” questions and I’m not really sure what I am joining or inviting.
Man, … I am way behind the times it seems!

“Tempest” – Ancient Landscapes Series

This is “Tempest”, another image from the “Ancient Landscapes” Series.
This particular image was created from a old piece of petrified wood, showing a very small area of the rock which resembles a desert landscape in turmoil, with winds howling above the desert floor.
I used the Canon 100mm macro and Kenko extension tube, Gitzo Explorer tripod, RRS ballhead, 1 lightbox, 2 reflectors, and shot outdoors beneath a shade tree.

When It Rains, ….. *** (UPDATE)

*** The police found the car about 3 miles from our home around 3:00pm today.
It was a bit dirty, a full tank of gas was gone, smelled of pot inside, a man’s shirt left inside, the license tag had been replaced with a dealer’s tag, and a small kids school backpack left in the back. No damage, and the police say that they know who it is. Now, … just finding him!

**********

As that saying goes, “When It Rains, … It Pours”.

Yesterday morning, I go outside to crank mine and my wife’s car up to let them warm up a bit in this cold weather we have been having.
I come back inside, grab some things to get ready to leave, and in less than 5 minutes time, my wife’s new SUV is gone.
DAMN!
Yep, … somebody stole it right from our driveway, right from under our nose!

If anyone out there who has been having some good luck, and has some left over, … could you please send me some?
You can FedEx it if you like, and I will gladly pay for it too!

Seriously though, … seems like I couldn’t buy any breaks if I had all the money in the world.
From my truck getting totaled by a drunk driver 2 years ago, the hot water heater causing a huge mess, a hiking/shooting trip in Georgia that resulted in me getting a couple of teeth knocked out, a lawn mower that blew up, the loss of huge trees on our property from two different storms, a sink hole on our property, ….. I truly can’t catch a break.

Hopefully I will post something again one day. Maybe something that will inspire both you, ….. and me! God knows I need some quick inspiration.
Right now, it is pretty tough to write anything at all, … other than a bunch of curse words! :)

Hope that everyone had a great New Year, and that 2010 will be the best ever.
I’ll come around one of these days, ….. and soon!

Brazil Agate Abstract Macro – Stitching.

The first image is a abstract from a cut slab of Brazil Agate rock.
What has been fun lately within the past few weeks, is to find interesting subjects that I could stitch together.
Cool!

“La Presa” – Ancient Landscapes Series / Brazil Agate Rock

This is another image created from a cut slab of Brazil Agate rock.
I like the barren landscape feel and the look of a approaching storm.
This rock had a ever so slight hint of cyan/blue within, so I removed that color in Photoshop.

Stephen Alvarez Video – “Earth From Below”

Now check out this photographer’s day at the office!
I wonder what type of macro world exists in this magnificent and incredibly huge cave?
Man, ….. I would love to find out!

“Brazil Agate” – 100mm Macro, Extension Tubes, & 50mm Reversed Lens.

I am starting to pile up a room full of rocks and minerals here at home, most that have been photographed, quite a few that have yet to be photographed, and some that I will be revisiting with some new ideas in mind.
Out of all those rocks and minerals, I still find myself drawn to the “agate” slabs/rocks with all of their intricate designs that move in and around the rock.

I purchased this Brazil agate that you see below because of the possibility that existed for some landscape type looking images, containing scenes that might look like some mountains, valleys, the skies, … etc.
But this is the first one that gave a bit more when I viewed it under higher magnification.
Cool stuff!
Well, … at least to me it is pretty cool stuff!

“Brazil Agate”

agate1916b

I set up the lightbox, cut on the light, set up two reflectors, placed the agate on top of the lightbox, and was a bit surprised at what I was seeing when looking through the 100mm macro, extension tubes, and the Nikkor 50mm 1.4 lens attached in reverse.
It felt somewhat like I was viewing a world underwater. A world showing movement of water over a bed of rocks. Or, it somewhat reminded me of my scuba diving days in waters where a very distinct “thermocline” existed, … hovering above the rocks below.

Playing around and creating from these types of agates allows me to dream a bit, which I often will do, … then I get that urge to study it further, to ask those “how” and “why” questions from those who would know.
Educational, … and fun!

Thanks for visiting gang,
Michael
