"Macro Art In Nature"

Explorations in the artistic world of macro photography.

“Tempest” – Ancient Landscapes Series

This is “Tempest”, another image from the “Ancient Landscapes” Series.
This particular image was created from a old piece of petrified wood, showing a very small area of the rock which resembles a desert landscape in turmoil, with winds howling above the desert floor.
I used the Canon 100mm macro and Kenko extension tube, Gitzo Explorer tripod, RRS ballhead, 1 lightbox, 2 reflectors, and shot outdoors beneath a shade tree.

When It Rains, ….. *** (UPDATE)

*** The police found the car about 3 miles from our home around 3:00pm today.
It was a bit dirty, a full tank of gas was gone, smelled of pot inside, a man’s shirt left inside, the license tag had been replaced with a dealer’s tag, and a small kids school backpack left in the back. No damage, and the police say that they know who it is. Now, … just finding him!

**********

As that saying goes, “When It Rains, … It Pours”.

Yesterday morning, I go outside to crank mine and my wife’s car up to let them warm up a bit in this cold weather we have been having.
I come back inside, grab some things to get ready to leave, and in less than 5 minutes time, my wife’s new SUV is gone.
DAMN!
Yep, … somebody stole it right from our driveway, right from under our nose!

If anyone out there who has been having some good luck, and has some left over, … could you please send me some?
You can FedEx it if you like, and I will gladly pay for it too!

Seriously though, … seems like I couldn’t buy any breaks if I had all the money in the world.
From my truck getting totaled by a drunk driver 2 years ago, the hot water heater causing a huge mess, a hiking/shooting trip in Georgia that resulted in me getting a couple of teeth knocked out, a lawn mower that blew up, the loss of huge trees on our property from two different storms, a sink hole on our property, ….. I truly can’t catch a break.

Hopefully I will post something again one day. Maybe something that will inspire both you, ….. and me! God knows I need some quick inspiration.
Right now, it is pretty tough to write anything at all, … other than a bunch of curse words! :)

Hope that everyone had a great New Year, and that 2010 will be the best ever.
I’ll come around one of these days, ….. and soon!

LensFlare35.com, … and other stuff!

Still busy, … writing a lot, … and trying to keep my feet warm today!

I have been meaning for quite a while now, to pay a visit to a site that I have heard about from some other photographers, and I finally got around to it a little bit yesterday.
Bottom line? Excellent site!
The site is LensFlare35.com.
Here you can find many Podcasts from some of the top photographers around.
You can listen to them speak while they show some of their images, and there is some quite intriguing material to be found there.
Some that I have listened to so far are from well known photographers such as Arthur Morris, Tyler Stableford, David Hume Kennerly, William Neill, Gabby Salazar, Art Wolfe, George Lepp, Alfred & Fabiola Forns, and Greg Downing.
There is a lot more that I have yet to get to, and will spend some time there this weekend just to listen, to learn, … to study.
Nothing to do right now? Then kick back and enjoy!

This image below is a sister image to a image I posted a while back.
That image & post can be found here. “Let It Be”

Hope that everyone has been getting along well, and hopefully I’ll shoot something in here again right before Christmas.

Take care everyone,
Michael

“Photosounder” – Software That Finds Mysterious Sounds In Photographs

Ever wondered if or just how much your images will speak to the viewer?
This is a video of digital images being played back as a audio file.
This is some awesome stuff!
I wonder what some of my nature stuff would sound like?

Photosounder is a one-of-a-kind image-sound editing program. It is unique in that it opens images and sounds indiscriminately, treats and processes them as images, and synthesizes them as sounds.

I’m Still Hanging In There!

Hello everyone!

Yes, I am still hanging in there.
Have been traveling around a little bit the past couple of months, doing a lot of shooting and experimenting with some medium format systems, both digital and film.
Certainly has been fun!

But, during that time, … I did a little boo boo while hiking in Georgia and got myself banged up quite a bit, and that has had me sitting here at home itching to get back to shooting. Yes, … sitting around doing “NOTHING” drives me absolutely up the wall!

So anyway, there will be some new stuff coming soon along with those “how did I do it” type of material.
Just give me some time to catch back up.

Hope everyone has been getting along well, and your images you have yet to create become your best ever!!

Red Daylily – Abstract

daylilymacrored1ns1blog.jpg

Yep, … 25 years of marriage and she ain’t killed me yet.
So, … guess I ain’t all that bad!

My wife and I have been away celebrating our 25th year of marriage, thinking about all of the good and bad we have been through together, … thankfully most of it good, and we have just arrived back into town.
We even decided to take our sons along with us to let them get in on the celebration.
It was nice, … fun, … but we are all glad to be home and to relax a bit.
Plus, … our dog “Flash” did not care to much for his sitters, so he is a bit on the happy side as well!

Still trying to get everything back to normal with both of my computer systems here at home, … which turned out to be a real mess.
No loss of images, but client info turned out to be a nightmare along with tax info, etc.
No losses to speak of, but just trying to put all of the pieces back together is a big pain.

Lots of shooting to do starting next week, so not much posting of any kind for a while.
I will get back into the swing of things after some of the dust settles.

Above is a old image shot with some E6 slide film.
I do miss those days, ………. sort of!
This is an abstract of a red daylily, “double”, deep within its throat. “Hemerocallis”

Hope that everyone and their families have been getting along well, and thanks for stopping by gang!

“Dark” Macro Photography.

There is much to be said about “dark” macro photography, or those close ups of various subjects with strong and dark silhouette type areas along with a slight blast of highlights.
I love these types of images, and is another area of creativity in macro photography that I am enjoying even more this season.
Such as these recent posts;
“Late Evening Lily Pads”
“In Their World” Series – Silhouettes

I call it “dark” macro photography, since lately most of my work has been these soft focus pastels or distinct high-key images.
With these “dark” macros, or close ups, … one can take their photography in a different direction when the need arises.
If gives one a chance to see if they can offer up their subject in a pleasing manner, … a manner that they have not delved in that much.
For me, … it is calming!
——————-
I need to go and pass out right now.
My son and I spent a day at Pawleys Island yesterday for some shooting during the day and a good bit at night.
We were up for nearly 26 hours believe it or not, … and man, … do I ever have some processing and editing to do.
But wow, … is my brain ever in a fog.
There was a time where I could go long hours like this and not miss a beat.
Now, … I don’t think I should try that again.
26 hours with no sleep is absolutely killer for me!!
My pillow is now calling!

Take care everyone, and thanks for stopping by.
